Energy Healing is a broad term used to describe a wide range of healing modalities. While Energy Healing in this country is sometimes linked to hands-on systems such as Reiki and Healing Touch, it can refer to almost any healing art that works under the holistic model and seeks to create change at the root level. The holistic model presumes that everything in our beings works together: Mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical. Energy Healing believes that finding the root cause of an issue in any of those levels can translate into change in the other levels.
John's unique approach to Energy Healing combines insightful dialogue with experiential exercises designed to help you understand yourself more deeply. Relaxation exercises are also included, as well as the principles of mindfulness, to help guide you through limitations to your life's goals. With his deep experience as both a healer and teacher, he is able to draw on the core principles of energy work and tailor treatments to each client. Although Energy Healing is less well-known in the United States, it is more popular abroad, both in native cultures as well as in Europe and Asia. It is gaining popularity in the U.S. as people learn its benefits and as more research is done. Energy Healing should be considered complementary care. It does not supplant the care of licensed medical and mental health professionals.
Energy Healing is an ancient healing art found in almost every culture, from the Taoist traditions of China, to the Ayurvedic systems of India, to countless indigenous societies, to name but a few. It is no more outdated than the common ailments human beings have had for centuries. It is found in the spiritual prescriptions of ancient prophetic medicine, as well as in the martial arts of Japan. Better known in the East, Energy Healing is used today in mainstream Chinese hospitals. Chinese doctors often work with their patients' "chi," or energy, in order to foster healing. Energy Healing is also well-known in parts of Europe, such as Germany, where hospitals are more open to complementary care. Our approach to health care in the United States has kept Energy Healing relatively unknown, but today it is enjoying increased interest as Americans educate themselves on the roots of disease, and on how spiritual growth can dramatically improve peace of mind and well-being.
Energy Healing practitioners can vary widely in their methods, training, and conceptual framework. Having trained in a broad range of healing arts, John uses the foundational concepts of energy work to tailor a treatment plan to each client. In speaking with clients, John uses his intuition and training to attempt to understand where the root of a negative pattern is stored. He then helps the client get in touch with that core and release the pattern using various techniques such as experiential feeling, emotional release, visualization, energetic dialogue and connecting to a comforting presence. Physical touch is not necessary in his approach, but may sometimes be used--if appropriate and only with client permission--to support certain aspects of a session.
A typical Energy Healing session lasts about one hour. Depending on the work, it may involve dialogue or guided processes, as you get in touch with different feelings within yourself. John will help to gently guide you into places that hold important keys to your movement forward. Progress is measured periodically, and "homework" is often assigned to support what is happening in between sessions. It is fine to come in with a specific complaint and be treated over a few sessions, but generally, most of John's clients prefer more long-term work, in order to reap the most benefits out of this type of deep personal journey.
One of John's specialties is working with couples. He enjoys helping couples deepen their ability to communicate honestly and lovingly, and learn the tools that make sustaining a love relationship possible. Being in relationship is an interesting intersection of individual and partner issues. We must learn to respect and appreciate the individual, while also embracing the healing power of a relationship to help each person grow and mature. John believes that by "tasting" the full potential of a relationship, one becomes clearer as to the role of that relationship in one's life. John's focus in relationship work is to deepen the trust and safety of each person and of the relationship--to help build a foundation two people can use to discover the truth of how they want to be with each other. Sessions generally focus on positive movement forward, rather than re-hashing old arguments. He supports you in learning tools you can use at home to improve your fulfillment with each other, and in yourself as a person. Honoring differences, and learning how to merge gracefully, are things that most people need some training in. Most couples can benefit from having such support, even if the relationship is doing well. Individuals and couples come to Energy Healing for a variety of reasons. Sometimes, they have a spiritual bent, or prefer a more holistic approach to their problems. Other times, they have tried more traditional therapies and want to try something different. Perhaps previous attempts at change and growth weren't going deep enough, and they want a more heart-centered way. The most common reason folks come to John, however, is that they have been referred by friends or family who have experienced the benefits of this work.
